Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Other works have compared the theologies of Hooker and Perkins, however, most have left the reader with the impression that Hooker was the loyal Anglican, while Perkins was the somewhat rebellious Puritan. Spinks (liturgical studies, Yale Divinity School) compares and contrasts their work, bringing both their common and divergent theologies to light. Spinks does acknowledge that their differences were far-reaching, but he insists on accepting their influences together, without labeling their philosophies as loyal or suspect, and that both ultimately affected how the Elizabethan Prayer Book was understood, discussed, and interpreted, even up to this century.
