Book excerpt: The thesis deals with electromagnetic scattering from a dielectric coated, conducting cylinder of arbitrary cross section and of infinite length. The incident field is assumed to be a uniform plane wave traveling normal to the axis of the scatterer. The integral equations for the transverse electric case are derived and discretized for numerical solution. The Hadamard principle value is used to handle high order singularities in the integral equations. A computer program RAMCS has been developed to solve for the two dimensional radar cross section for the case of a lossless dielectric coating. The numerical solution is formulated in terms of the method of moments. Results are presented for circular cylindrical scattering bodies.
