Sallier III, when he decided to copy the entire text of the Battle of Kadesh. (Temp.: Ramesses II). The work covers his difficulties with syntax and morphology, but also treats the literary aspects of the original composition. The intellectual background to Pentawaret and his associates, especially their political and literary milieu, are covered. A specialized chapter treats the palaeography of P. Sallier III, and additional ones provide the necessary background data concerning the style of the copy and its relationship to the original hieroglyphic version. The final chapter provides a detailed analysis of Egyptian military compositions as literature, and a new unpublished war account of Ramesses III, in hieratic, rounds out the work.
