This book was released on 2005 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of single chip systems in wireless electronics is becoming more common as the demand for smaller and more complex devices increases. The benefit of having a single chip system is that it can provide the same performance yet consume less space and power than multiple chip systems. One of the most important parts in having a functional wireless system is the ability to transmit & receive information efficiently. The research conducted describes the design and implementation of an integrated circuit transmitter for multiple system-on-chip applications. For this project a dual band transmitter that transmits information in the 2.4 and 5.7 GHz ISM bands was designed. The design is an IEEE 802.11a/b/g like system, but does not follow the specifications for data transmission other than the transmission frequencies. In order to create a transmitter, multiple building blocks are needed. This includes the design of the voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs), high frequency dividers, phase frequency detectors and charge pump for phase locked loops, modulation scheme, and a power amplifier to transmit the information at a reasonable level to a 50 ohm antenna. Each building block has been analyzed in detail with transistor level simulations and extracted layout simulations to verify the operation of the design. A complete system simulation and layout of the transmitter has been completed. An analysis and discussion of the design and fabricated IC on a standard CMOS process is presented.
