But I started hearing heart-wrenching stories from around the world about young women who had escaped from Iran. I received this news on the radio, on TV, in printed press, and from friends and family who returned from visits to Tehran. Each night I would go to bed with a heavy heart and on one of those nights the Pearl of the Persian Gulf was born and Sara, the main character, became the embodiment of all those heroic young women who ran away in pursuit of freedom."
