The negative impact of the epidemic on health and the quality of the labour force, which deters foreign direct investment, is underscored and assessed. The report provides estimates of populations at risk of HIV/AIDS because of the impact of poverty in 34 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and in the more developed regions. It discusses the links between HIV/AIDS and the movement of persons in search of work, in the course of their work, and in the travel and leisure industries; and outlines the changes needed to address and manage the HIV/AIDS epidemic at enterprise, national and global levels.
