Dai travels to England where he works for Hudson and Terraplane, fitting radios into their luxury cars. Through this work he meets a few celebrities and also his future wife, whom he takes home to meet his family in Wales. The story continues through the Second World War, with Dai witnessing some tragic events. However, he survives the war and goes on to have five children, including Bronwen, the author of this book. This sequel to Sunshine on the Mayfield captures wonderful memories about family life and, although Dai spends some time in England, it describes the typical experience of many young Welshmen. Throughout his time in England, Dai always remembers his roots, and soon returns to the Valleys.
