Trygve jarl dies, and is succeeded by his grandson. A number of the villagers leave Norway to head to a new home. While searching for Cassandra, Frey eventually winds up at a Benedictine monastery and obtains information about the possible whereabouts of his wife. With his his prayers answered, he once again continues his search, eventually joining Auger and company in the New World with their new Mi'qmak friends.
