Book excerpt: The overarching goal of the dissertation is the development of an integrated, scalable decision support framework that allows for optimization and comprehensive cost estimates of green infrastructure and is adaptable across the diverse hydroclimatology, regional policies, and practices. The integrated decision support system includes tools built around a user-friendly interface that can be implemented from the plot to sewer-shed scales. It includes novel and existing tools (i.e., Storm Water Management Model (SWMM)) coupled to optimization algorithms for strategic placement of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) on a watershed scale. The system of tools will allow resource managers and communities to evaluate options for improving stormwater runoff management using green infrastructure including costs. This research includes 3 chapters (excluding introduction and conclusion sections) with each chapter focusing on a specific tool. Chapter 2 presents the development of a site-scale integrated decision support tool (i-DSTss) for selection and sizing of stormwater BMPs. The tool has several component modules—hydrology, BMP selection and sizing, and life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA)—integrated into a single platform. The hydrology module predicted runoff from a small residential area and a parking lot with R2 value of 0.77 and 0.74, respectively. The BMP sizing module predicted outflow rates from a permeable pavement with R2 value of 0.89. The i-DSTss is built on an accessible platform and can be operated with a basic skillset. The i-DSTss is intended for designers, regulators, and municipalities for quick analysis of scenarios involving interaction among several factors
