Book excerpt: The Collection on Frank M. Andrews is a research collection assembled primarily between 2002 and 2004. It contains materials gathered by two researchers, Dr. Henry O. Malone, Jr. and Lieutenant Colonel Robert M. Burch, who were tasked at different times to research and write an official biography of Frank M. Andrews. The majority of the papers were gathered by Malone. The bulk of the collection consists of photocopies of materials held by other research institutions, although some original materials are also included, as well as some of Malone's writings on Andrews, the history of the U.S. Air Force, Andrews Air Force Base, and Langley Air Force Base. Printed materials in the collection include some U.S. Air Force historical studies, oral history transcripts, bibliographies and guides to archival collections, and other reports and publications on the history of the U.S. Army Air Forces and the U.S. Air Force. The collection also contains photographs, slides and negatives, with portraits of Andrews and reproductions of U.S. Army Air Forces photographs making up the bulk of the photographic materials. The slides include images of Andrews and aircraft, as well as a set of slides on the American Civil War. Two folders containing reproduced negatives of photographs are restricted due to their fragility.
