And just here I would say that it is not the rapidity of the pulse upon which we lay stress, but upon the character ofthe pulse itself. We find the pulse hard, bounding, throbbing as it were, and one that it is impossible to compress or to make entirely disappear. We feel it jumping under the fingers as an unruly horse pulling against the bridle. The pulse rate may be very little increased, or it may run up very rapidly.
