Book excerpt: 'Friendship as a Way of Life' is an exhibition project that explores queer kinship and forms of being together. It centres around three ideas that offer perspectives on LGBTQI+ partnerships, collaboration, visibility, sex, intimacy and knowledge: 'Public Relations' (the public expression of private lives and forms of communicating identity); 'Living Arrangements' (spaces and approaches to living/being with 'chosen families'); and 'Intergenerational Kinship' (learning, sharing and support across generations).Presented at UNSW Galleries, Sydney and in the online series 'Forms of Being Together', the project foregrounds how LGBTQI+ communities create alternative networks of support through various creative and resourceful means. This reader features companion texts by Wilfred Brandt, Daniel Marshall, Timothy Roberts, Sophie Robinson and Verónica Tello, alongside artists and collaborators featured in the exhibition project.
