Book excerpt: Utilizing a person-centered approach based on the Five-Factor Model of personality, the study organized the personality profiles of sexual offenders and examined the diffeneces among the resulting prototypes. Cluster analysis of the NEO Personality Inventory-3 profiles of n=104 sexual offenders from the national prison facility resulted to a five-cluster solution. The five types of sexual offenders identified show similarities and parallels to the existing personality-based typologies from juvenile and adult sex offender populations. Further analysis of the profiles showed significant differences among the groups in their behavioral, affective, and cognitive aspects, demonstrating support that although sexual offenders constitute a heterogenous group, subtypes can be identified which can further understanding of their nature, needs, and risks. These findings have implications in their treatment, management, and supervision.
