Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is voter education. Every thinking person realizes that we face serious problems: increasing disparity between rich and poor, a shrinking middle class, disintegration of the family, teen pregnancy, cultural subversion, crime and drugs, lack of adequate healthcare, environmental damage, repeated engagement in foreign wars, and a national debt approaching $6 trillion. These problems did not develop overnight, and they will not be resolved overnight. To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, "Democracy requires informed voters." It is the central theme of this book that the source of these problems is the capitalist system of economy that benefits the few wealthy at the expense of the many workers.
