Book excerpt: John C. Harper was born 26 June 1787 in Orange County, North Carolina. His parents were Richard Harper and Nancy Anne Forrest. He married Sarah Hurst (1789-1892), daughter of Thomas Hurst and Sylvia Breeding in 1807 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. They had thirteen children. He died in 1849 in Cape Girardeau, Tennessee. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, California and Washington.
