Book excerpt: This report describes the creation of scales to measure trust in teams and trust in a team leader in the context of small military teams. The first section includes a review of existing literature on the measurement of trust in others, trust in a leader, and trust in teams. From this, implications for future measures of trust in teams are outlined. The second section recounts the process of creating the trust in teams & trust in leader scales, including conceptual decisions that were made during the process of scale development. The third section describes the design & findings of a study conducted to explore the psychometric properties of the first iteration of these scales, and offers recommendations for further refinement. The final section describes a pilot study exploring the use of implicit measures of trust in teams and makes recommendations for future work.
