In addition, the literature also notes that there is a lack of practitioners to provide care to this population. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the cost effectiveness in utilizing nurse practitioners to provide care to residents in long term care facilities without sacrificing quality of care. This author proposes that the solution may lie within the scope and practice of the nurse practitioner. A review of the literature regarding cost effectiveness, revenues and quality care issues related to the use of nurse practitioners in the long term care setting will be investigated.
