Book excerpt: The Road to Discovery: A Short History of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory was published in 2015 to mark the 125th anniversary of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. At Cold Spring Harbor, in a bucolic setting on the north shore of New York's Long Island, two interdependent research centers in biology were founded as Charles Darwin's insights into heredity and evolution shook the world of science.
