Statutory authority for this regulation is established under Sections 1169, 12313(a), and 12681, Title 10, United States Code. This regulation applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and the U.S. Army Reserve, unless otherwise stated. This regulation sets policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the readiness and competency of the force while providing for the orderly administrative separation of Soldiers for a variety of reasons. Readiness is promoted by maintaining high standards of conduct and performance. The separation policies in this regulation promote the readiness of the U.S. Army.
