Book excerpt: The purpose of this Environmental Impact Statement is to analyze the environmental impacts of actions proposed in the Channel Maintenance Management Plan (CMMP) for maintaining a 9-foot navigation channel, along with commercial and small-boat harbors, on the Upper Mississippi River between Guttenberg, Iowa and the head of navigation at Minneapolis, Minnesota. The proposed actions analyzed in this document include dredging; dredged material placement; recreational beach maintenance and development; repair, construction, modification, and/or removal of channel structures; clearing and snagging operations; and future site planning for dredged material placement. Site specific social and economic effects of the CMMP range from slightly negative effects to significantly positive effects.
